White House defends infrastructure plan amid criticism from left-wing group

The White House on Monday hit back against a left-wing group that says President Biden’s infrastructure plan doesn’t go far enough to address climate change.

“I would dispute the notion that it doesn’t do anything for climate, which some are arguing,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters.

The left-leaning Sunrise Movement has organized protests against the president’s infrastructure proposal, saying it doesn’t invest enough money to fight climate change.

Protesters chanted “no climate, no deal” as they marched near the White House at the beginning of the month. They held signs calling Mr. Biden a “coward” and urging him to “fight for us.” Other signs said, “Our Future is not Negotiable” and “Biden No Compromise No Excuse.”

Democratic Reps. Jamaal Bowman and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, both of New York, spoke at the protest.
