Well, folks, here we are, somehow already on the last day of June and over halfway through 2021! But before you go jumping into July, make sure to pause and bask in this final day of the month by taking in June 2021’s last Woman Crush Wednesday. Today we’re celebrating a wonderful woman who has consistently crushed it on screens big and small for over a decade now, and whose impressive filmography and acting repertoire only continue to grow with each passing year. Remember her name because the gal is going places, and give it up for her, your WCW, the marvelous Kiana Madeira!
WHO’S THAT GAL: Kiana Madeira
WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Madeira stars as Deena in the upcoming Netflix Original horror mystery Fear Street Part 1: 1994, which premieres on the platform this Friday, July 2nd. The film revolves around a circle of teenage friends who accidentally encounter the ancient evil responsible for a series of brutal murders that have plagued their town, Shadyside, for over 300 years. In addition to Madeira, the movie also features Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Julia Rehwald, Maya Hawke, and Fred Hechinger. Based on R. L. Stine’s Fear Street book series, this film is the first of three Fear Street installments appearing exclusively on Netflix this month.
The Fear Street trilogy is already receiving attention and positive press from publications like BBC, Hypebeast, GQ, Gizmodo, us here at Decider, and more! Make sure you see what all of the hype is about by checking out Madeira and the rest of the cast’s terrifyingly good work in Fear Street Part 1: 1994 as soon as it hits Netflix this week.
WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Madeira began her profession onscreen career in 2007 when she appeared in an episode of Canadian comedy series Little Mosque on the Prairie. Just a few years later, she acted in 2010 TV family comedy movie Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars, which kicked off a stream of steady gigs including TV movies Salem Falls, One Christmas Eve, Bad Hair Day, Bruno & Boots: Go Jump in the Pool, The Swap, and Neverknock, and shows My Babysitter’s a Vampire, Really Me, The Other Kingdom, Conviction, Dark Matter, Barbelle, Wynonna Earp, Taken, and Yo Fam!.
In more recent years, Madeira has further set herself apart as a burgeoning and gifted acting talent, especially since landing her feature film debut as Clara in 2018 sci-fi drama-thriller Level 16. Since then, you may have seen her in features films like 2018 drama Giant Little Ones and 2019 action dramedy She Never Died, or in a 2018 episode of The Flash or as recurring or main roles in other shows like Sacred Lies, Coroner, and Trinkets. Clearly, Madeira is an actress who continues to grow more and shine brighter with every year, and we can’t wait to see the many successes that lay ahead of her in the long career she has to come.
WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Luckily, you won’t have to wait too much longer to see more from Madeira. You can catch her in both of the other Fear Street installments dropping on Netflix this month, Fear Street Part II: 1978 and Fear Street Part III: 1666. You can also look forward to seeing her in upcoming romantic drama films After We Fell and After Ever Happy, which are movies three and four, respectively, in the popular After film franchise.
