What’s the taste you most associate with childhood, and your mother’s cooking in particular? For me, it’s (prepare to be grossed out) noodles with cottage cheese and black pepper, a dish my Mom would serve every time I got sick. For Silas Plaskett (Hal Cumpston) on The Walking Dead: World Beyond, it’s lasagna in a can.
“My mom used to buy me these,” Silas says in Decider’s exclusive look at this Sunday’s (October 18) “The Tyger and the Lamb”. “I used to ask her to. Back in Omaha. You know, before.”
When it comes to World Beyond, the word “before” can mean a lot of things, from “before the zombie apocalypse,” to “before the group left the safe harbor of the Campus Colony.” In this case, it’s probable Silas means the former. As we’ve discovered through the first two episodes of World Beyond, there are three linked civilizations part of the Civic Republic. There’s Campus Colony in Lincoln, Nebraska; Portland; and the Civic Republic Military located… Somewhere. Though we don’t know what happened to Silas in Omaha before the fall of civilization, it’s clearly something that will come out more this episode.
“You miss her?” asks Iris Bennett (Aliyah Royale).
“No… Sometimes. You miss yours?” answers Silas.
“Every day,” says Iris, which is another plot that needs following up on, since — though she doesn’t know it — her sister Hope (Alexa Mansour) is partially responsible for the death of her mother.
The big question of course is: if Silas loves lasagna in a can, does he also hate Mondays in a can? Pro-tip: never pass up the opportunity for a Garfield joke, no matter how lame.
