‘The View’ Fans Celebrate Meghan McCain’s Exit: “Maybe I Can Start Watching Again”

Following the news of Meghan McCain‘s reported exit from The View, fans of the ABC talk show are sharing their largely celebratory reactions on Twitter. McCain, who is expected to announce her departure from The View on today’s episode, will be leaving after four seasons on the show, which she first joined in 2017. She reportedly has two years left in her contract, but was “adamant” that it was time for her to leave the show.

Shortly after The Daily Mail first reported McCain’s exit, fans and followers of The View threw a virtual party on social media, bidding goodbye to McCain after her four contentious years on the show.

“Meghan McCain is reportedly quitting her job at The View. I’m not surprised, but I’m happy for Whoopi & Joy. Those poor women were about to have permanent nerve damage from all the eye rolling they did anytime Meghan opened her mouth,” one wrote. “Bye bye snowflake!”

Another added, “I’ve been a BIG fan of the view since August 11, 1997. I must say, since Meghan McCain has joined the show It has been very hard to watch. I enjoy the different views of all the ladies but Meghan McCain has proven to be racist, immature, intitled [sic], bratty, unforgiving, and a pain.”

Despite the largely positive reactions to McCain’s exit, not all viewers were pleased. Some mourned her exit as losing the one conservative voice on the talk show. “This bums me out. I love @MeghanMcCain,” one wrote. “The View won’t be the same. No balance.”

McCain is reportedly leaving The View despite ABC’s attempts to keep her on. During her time on the show, The View saw a ratings spike, according to Variety, and her on-air fights with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar often went viral. “ABC begged for her to stay [and] she said ‘No — I’m done! I’m not staying anymore,'” a Disney source told Page Six. They added, “They even offered a contributor role on ABC News, which she tuned down. She’s just had enough. She doesn’t need it anymore — she really doesn’t need it.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
