People who are into kinky sex more likely to do illicit drugs, study says

Drug users spend less time in missionary.

So say sexy new findings published this month in the journal Contemporary Drug Problems correlating recreational drug use and non-traditional sex.

Researchers in the UK proved this now-universal truth by asking nearly 1,000 attendees of music festivals about their drug use and sex habits.

The anonymous data they acquired in the process revealed a strong connection between substance use and certain sexual practices, including casual “sex with a friend and anal sex,” study authors wrote in the abstract. These behaviors also included BDSM and sex with strangers.

The “normalization of drugs and the liberalization of consensual sexual practices” could be related since both illicit drug use and some sex practices are being increasingly viewed as “leisure activities,” the researchers wrote.

In other words, sex and drugs have merely become humble pastimes for today’s young, wild and free.

“Our study revisited the well-worn phrase of ‘sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll’ and has proven that both recreational drug use and non-traditional sexual activities are linked and have also become the norm,” lead author and University of Roehampton sociology professor Mark McCormack told the Toronto Sun. “Indeed, adults who report taking at least two illicit drugs are more likely to engage in non-traditional sexual behaviors. The music is no longer rock ’n’ roll and the sex has changed as well.”

Co-author and University of Liverpool professor Fiona Measham added that survey respondents were surprisingly open about sharing highly personal details of their life once they were assured anonymity.

“It takes a degree of tact and courage to approach strangers and ask them whether they have had anal sex, with someone other than their partner, or for money,” she told the publication. “Some readers might be surprised that people would disclose something so personal but so long as they believe it’s genuinely anonymous, they are quite candid when asked. The fact that we were able to complete this survey at all shows just how much attitudes to sex are changing.”
