Charlotte, NC — A new piece of legislation introduced into the 117th Congress would be a major blow to gun owners across the country. Rep. Jackson Lee (D-TX) introduced the measure called the Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act. The bill is a direct attack on the Second Amendment.

The law would require all gun owners to have a license to possess a firearm and ammunition. The restrictions and licensing process would be placed in the hands of the Attorney General. All gun owners would be forced to comply within 3 months of the law being enacted and all firearms registered in a database.

That’s only the beginning of the ridiculous inclusions in the law.

In order to obtain your license to continue to own your firearm, you would have to undergo another background check as well as a psychiatric exam. If the examining psychologist wants, they can force you to have everyone in your home to go through an evaluation to determine if YOU are fit to own a firearm.

You then have to go through a firearm safety class where you would be forced to take 24 hours of training on the use, safety, and storage of firearms. You would even have to apply for a license if you simply wanted to own an antique firearm to display in your home. You must describe the manner in which it would be displayed for approval to hang it in your home.

There are many means to which they can suspend your firearm license under the proposal. Some relate to charges for crimes with punishments of one year in prison. Another is the lack of firearms liability insurance.

Yes, you must pay $800 annually for federally mandated firearms insurance to own certain weapons. Some of these would include AR-15’s, a semi-automatic rifle that has a folding stock and a detachable magazine, a shotgun that has a magazine and a pistol grip, and several more.

All magazines or ammunition feeding devices that allow more than 10 rounds of ammunition would be banned under the law. There are also restrictions to the caliber of ammunition one could own.

Violation of the law would come with fines ranging from $5,000 to $150,000 and up to 25 years in prison. While the bill has been introduced into the House and referred to the Judiciary Committee, no other action has been taken yet.

President Joe Biden has said he has every intention to take action against gun violence and I fully expect he will declare it a public health emergency. The actions that these Democrats are taking are not an effort to protect anyone, but rather to punish legal gun owners.

The Second Amendment is very clear in how it is stated, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” That does not say depending on the make and model of the gun. That does not say depending on how many bullets your gun will hold or the feelings of the Democrats about how dangerous you may be.

That simply says that you have a constitutional right to own a firearm and that the government cannot infringe on that right. Forced registration, licensure, and mental health evaluations are a direct infringement on gun owners everywhere.

If the Democrats choose to go down this path, this law will be challenged all the way to the Supreme Court. The Democrats only hope of this law surviving would be if they figure out how to stack the federal courts before it gets there.

Democrats Are Ready To Take Care Of Your Money

While it may have been a slow news weekend, there are three things that seem to stand out. The first is the big deal that the mainstream media made over President Trump’s legal team leaving. While they reported reasons for their departure, the concern should be minimal.  In fact, President Trump really does not need a legal defense team.
