Meghan McCain Reportedly Leaving ‘The View’

Meghan McCain is signing off The View for good. The conservative co-host is expected to announce her resignation from the daytime talk show on this morning’s episode, The Daily Mail reports.

McCain’s exit comes after four seasons on the show, but she reportedly has two years left on her contract. She is expected to officially leave her co-hosting job at the end of July, just shy of four years since she first joined The View in October 2017.

According to The Daily Mail, McCain’s co-hosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro — are “not yet aware” of her exit from the show. “We have tried to keep her, but she is adamant that now is the right time for her to leave,” a source from Disney, the parent company of The View network ABC, told the outlet.

The news comes after a string of heated on-air exchanges between McCain and her co-hosts, particularly Behar and Goldberg. Just weeks ago, Goldberg and McCain ended a Hot Topics segment with a fight over President Biden’s comments to a CNN reporter, trading barbs before Goldberg was forced to send the show to a commercial break to put an end to the argument. Weeks earlier, the co-hosts bickered over Marjorie Taylor Greene, ending another segment with a tense back-and-forth.

McCain has been open about her sometimes strained relationship with her co-stars, admitting last year that she never did a chemistry test with the other hosts before joining The View. “Not to make this about me, but when I was originally offered the job on this show, they wanted to test me with a bunch of the ladies, and I said, ‘No. You see what I can do,'” she said. “Fast forward to a few years later, I again refused a chemistry test, and I ended up getting hired anyway.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
