Less than two weeks after taking office as a fervent “Defund the police” radical, Rep. Jamaal Bowman . . . asked for a special police detail to guard his Yonkers home, The Post’s Jon Levine reports. Seriously.
Bowman was freaking out in the wake of the Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol. Though he said the next day that he’d been safe the whole time, his office says he “received threats” that led it to request an increased police presence at his digs.
“Defund the police, and defund the system that’s terrorizing our communities,” Bowman said in December. Yet his staff had no qualms about calling in the cops once they saw a security concern.
And the cops dutifully answered. Yonkers Police Department Lt. Dean Politopoulos told The Post the YPD provided the detail for the next two weeks, though the YPD hasn’t detected anything unusual or suspect in that part of town for several years.
Of course, Bowman didn’t change his tune: “We screamed defund the police so we could reallocate those resources toward something that focuses on true public health and public safety,” he tweeted in April.
Put him down as one more rank hypocrite.
