Gayle King is going to be a grandma.
The broadcast journalist’s 32-year-old daughter, Kirby Bumpus, has a baby on the way.
King, 66, made the announcement on Wednesday’s episode of her show “CBS This Morning,” revealing the baby is due to arrive in September.
Bumpus, who works as head of social impact and inclusion at Sweetgreen, got married to Virgil Miller in December.
The pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at the Santa Barbara estate of Oprah Winfrey — King’s best friend and Bumpus’ godmother. Only a small circle of guests witnessed the nuptials: Wing, Winfrey and Winfrey’s longtime partner, Stedman Graham. Bumpus’ brother, Will Bumpus, officiated.
On Wednesday’s episode, King said she’s mulling over what the baby will call her. When guest John Legend — who is dad to daughter Luna and son Miles — made an appearance on the program, she asked for his advice in picking a name.
“I definitely don’t want to be Granny,” King said. “You know something about writing songs. Maybe you can come up with a name for me.”
Bumpus is King’s daughter with ex-husband William Bumpus.
