Equinox is throwing its weight behind Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris.
The upscale gym’s chairman, Harvey Spevak, hosted a private virtual gala for Harris on Friday and supporters had to fork over a minimum contribution of $50,000 to enter the Zoom call.
The vice presidential candidate, who was sidelined from traveling earlier this week because two of her campaign staffers contracted COVID-19, appeared from Washington, DC. The pricey event will benefit the Biden Action Fund.
Spevak was forced to apologize to gym members last year after one of its investors held a fund-raiser for President Trump’s re-election campaign — sparking outrage and a call for customers to boycott the gym. “I am sorry for the impact it has had on our community — and I’m sorry we haven’t said more,” he said at the time. “Our focus has always been about building a community centered on our values, not politics.”
Tickets for Trump’s fund-raiser went for up to $250,000 and included access to the president.
