Chrissy Teigen’s Surprise ‘Never Have I Ever’ Guest Role Gets Canned At Netflix

Just weeks prior to Netflix‘s Never Have I Ever second season premiere, an already-taped Chrissy Teigen guest appearance on the show has been canned. While her surprise role was never announced, Netflix had already taped Teigen’s part which was narrator for one episode, which is a callback to the first season twist when Andy Samberg subbed in for tennis icon John McEnroe in an episode.

According to Vulture, however, Teigen has “decided to step away from the guest role,” adding that her part “is expected to be recast.”

While the spokesperson for the show provided minimal details, the last-minute change comes weeks after Teigen made a publicized apology to Courtney Stodden for unearthed cyberbullying in the form of a series of harassing tweets from over 10 years ago. In one of the posts Teigen told Stodden, who was a teenager at the time, to “take a dirt nap.”

Teigen’s appearance, in similar fashion to Samberg’s, was meant to have been a surprise for Netflix viewers. In a May 5 letter sent out to select feature writers on May 5, Netflix asked journalists to refrain from revealing the Teigen audio appearance, or even that there would be a guest narrator on the show once again. Just days later, however, Teigen’s old tweets resurfaced in a Daily Beast story, in which Stodden also claimed Teigen had sent her direct messages suggesting she commit suicide.

On May 12, Teigen responded to the controversy on Twitter, claiming that her past self was “an insecure, attention seeking troll” and insisted that she is “ashamed and completely embarrassed” by her actions. Teigen has since stayed away from the spotlight.

Thus far Netflix has avoided announcing a new narrator to replace Teigen or if there has even been one cast. Season 2 of the show, which is produced by Universal Television and was nominated for a Peabody, is still slated to premiere in July.
