Just when we thought we couldn’t shake the image of Bo Burnham as a good guy who might not be so good in the Oscar-winning Promising Young Woman, here’s Burnham to remind us of his creepily great musical comedy skills. In a surprise announcement, Burnham will be releasing a comedy special on Netflix that he filmed entirely in isolation called Bo Burnham: Inside.
Burnham teased the news with a clip released online, and the clip is short but… Sweet? Well, it’s definitely short. And it opens with the sweet ending from his most recent Netflix special, 2016’s Make Happy, before shifting to an older, bearded Burnham, alone in the dark. Burnham announced the clip by Tweeting: “hi. i made a new special. it was filmed by me, alone, without a crew or an audience, over the course of the past year. it is almost finished. i hope you like it.”
Since making Make Happy for Netflix, Burnham has directed comedy specials for both Jerrod Carmichael (8, on HBO) and Chris Rock (Tamborine, on Netflix), acted as a comedian on the big screen in The Big Sick, and won the WGA and Independent Spirit Awards for the screenplay he wrote for his first feature, Eighth Grade.
Burnham also just got cast as Larry Bird in Adam McKay’s upcoming limited HBO series about the Los Angeles Lakers dynasty of the 1980s. Netflix is excited to show you what’s behind that door. I’m excited. How about you?
There’s no premiere date as of yet.
